The 2017-2018 Sparkidz Saturday program will begin on September 16, 2017. Classes for children with special needs are held from 10:30AM to 3:30PM at the PS 6 The Lillie Devereaux Blake School, conveniently located at 45 East 81st Street, New York, New York 10028.
Each Saturday, our talented teaching artists teach classes that are engaging, inclusive and student-centered. All children are grouped according to age, ability and staffing needs. They encouraged to participate at a pace that is appropriate to their individual needs. Children are encouraged to build friendships, build skills and engage in challenging new activities, all while being supported by staff members at a 3:1 student to teacher ratio.
Sample Daily Schedule:
10:15-10:30: Morning Drop off
10:30-11:00: Yoga Students participate in a calm, yet engaging yoga practice, led by a certified yoga instructor.
11:00-11:30 Art Students take part in a studio-style art class taught by a credentialed art teacher. Activities include drawing, painting, collage and sculpture.
11:30-12:00 Outdoor Sports OR Technology Staff members facilitate games and supervise free-play in a contained outdoor setting. Sometimes, field trips to the park occur! Students who prefer technology can enjoy time using computers and iPads in our state-of-the-art computer lab.
12:30-1:00 Drama Students engage in highly creative theater games, improvisations and script writing.
1:00-1:45 Music A highly participatory music class, including listening, movement, singing and instruments is taught by an experienced teacher.
1:45-2:30 Dance An energetic class, led by professional dancers. Students enjoy moving to their favorite tunes.
2:30-3:15 Cooking Students work collaboratively on cooking and baking projects in a safe and closely supervised classroom.
